With its game-within-a-game, Inception-style system, this operator has effectively gamified the online casino further than ever before. To cover it all in my Casino Heroes review, I have traversed Heroville’s Mythical Mountains and Rock of Riches and gathered all of the pertinent information about the games available to play, payout statistics, software and licencing requirements. Do you have what it takes to be a Casino Hero? Grab your map, battle armour and trusty weapon and let’s find out!

The Casino Heroes Games on Offer

To become a true warrior on the isles of Heroville, you’re going to need to play some Casino Heroes games, which is the reason we’re all here. All of the near-700 games on the website not only provide all of the fun of playing blackjack or spinning slots online, they also contribute to your progress bar and get you closer to fighting the big boss at the end of the road. While the concept ar is a cute idea, it wouldn’t be able to stand on its own if the operator didn’t also offer a wide variety of games for you to actually play.

Take Your Pick from the Casino Heroes Collection

Luckily, the developer behind Casino Heroes – Hero Gaming – has taken this into account when putting together its collection of games. The local Heroville Casino lobby is bursting at the seams with all of the slot options you could ever hope for, plus a selection of the classic favourites that should satisfy any adventurer.

The arrow in the quiver is definitely its selection of slots, though, which make up 80% of the total games available on the website. The classic favourite fruit spinners are here, plus some of the newer releases and over 20 jackpot slot games. It’s always tough to choose a lucky slot when there are so many options, and the website could certainly benefit from adding extra filter categories to help you sort through the haystack of games.

The Most Popular Games at Casino Heroes
Slots (547) Roulette (37) Blackjack (67) Table Games (33) Video Poker (15)
Thunderstruck 2 French Roulette La Partage Pontoon Texas Hold ‘Em Jackpot Poker
Rainbow Riches English Roulette Hi Lo 13 European Blackjack Gold Red Dog Deuces Wild
Game of Thrones 243 Ways Realistic Roulette Double Exposure Blackjack Mahjong Exchange Jacks or Better
Lucky Leprechaun Relax Gaming Roulette Single Deck Professional Series Blackjack Baccarat Joker Poker
Ted Roulette European Perfect Pairs 21 Plus 3 Caribbean Stud All American
Jack Hammer 2 European Roulette with Track European Blackjack Slot Dice Casino Stud Poker

The remaining 20% of the Casino Heroes online games are split among the roulette, blackjack, poker and a couple of other classic table games. I was underwhelmed by the range of video poker options, which are pretty basic and stick to the standard Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild and Joker Poker varieties. Blackjack and roulette options are also kept clean and clear, making it easier for you to pick a game and get right to the fun part. RNG-based table games are mostly provided by leading game developers NetEnt and Play’n GO, while the live games are sourced from Evolution Gaming.

Get That Live Casino Feeling, Online

It can be easy to forget your role as a brave warrior when you’re in the middle of a live game of roulette or blackjack. Watching the glamorous croupiers, streamed directly from Evolution Gaming’s own state-of-the-art studios, is an incredibly immersive experience, making you feel more like you’re wearing a tuxedo than battle armour. The variety of live games on offer is impressive, more than making up for the non-live options that are available and bringing the classy casino atmosphere back to Heroville.

Making Your Casino Adventure Mobile

If you want to continue your quest while you’re on the move and have an Apple device, you can download the Casino Heroes app from the App Store. Unfortunately for Android users, there is no app available for you, but users of any device can easily play some of the Casino Heroes games through its website. Interestingly, you can try some of the games for free when playing on mobile, a feature that is only available on the desktop version if you’re not logged in to your account.

Taking Table Limits to the Top

When you’re choosing which online casino will be best suited to your style of play, its key to think about your betting budget. With all of the online options in the world to choose from, there’s no point picking a place that doesn’t allow you to make wagers of the right monetary value. In this sense, finding an operator with a wide spread of table limits will ensure that no matter how low or high the bet you’d like to make, you can find a game to match.

Casino Heroes has one of the biggest variations in table limits that I’ve seen so far. One of the live roulette options is designed specifically with high rollers in mind, letting players place bets up to a staggering $100,000 for a single spin. On the other hand, it also offers some of the lowest stakes, offering hands of blackjack at as low as 10c.

Casino Heroes Payout Rates

Playing casino games is always a gamble, regardless of which game you choose to play. However, the payout rates will vary from game to game and each will offer a different return to player (RTP) percentage. The average RTP for the slots at Casino Heroes, for example, hovers at around the 95% mark, while blackjack games can have an RTP of up to 99.53% and those few percentage points can make a bit of a difference.

In understanding the RTP statistics, it’s important to note that there are two different versions an operator can provide, which is the theoretical and real RTP. All slots have a static RTP that doesn’t change, as is put in place when the developer codes the game itself. On this website, you can find the different RTPs of slot games provided by NetEnt within the rules or help setting of each game, which can be a bit cumbersome to find. Unfortunately, Casino Heroes payout rates have not been published, so this is the only way to access that information.

Payout Rates of the Different Casino Games
  • .

  • Classic Slots 94.23 - 96.70%

  • Video Slots 94.51 - 96.80%

  • Roulette 97.30 - 98.65%

  • Blackjack 99.28 - 99.53%

  • Table Games 97.42 - 99.47%

  • Video Poker 96.77 - 99.56%

  • Scratch Cards* 00.00 - 00.00%

  • Arcade Games* 00.00 - 00.00%

As the table shows, the slot options here fall within the industry average of 92-96%, on the higher end of the scale, in fact. This is a good sign, as the information I’ve collected shows that a wager place on a slot here is likely to be in better hands than at much of the competition.

The roulette, blackjack and video poker options are all at the high side of the industry averages too. Although there aren’t a large number of varieties in the availability of these games, keeping the selection small has allowed the operator to cultivate its collection using only the versions with the higher RTP percentages. Though understanding the RTP of the games you’re playing won’t affect the progress bar on your journey through Heroville, it could make a difference to your bottom line.

The Casino Heroes Software Situation

The gamification aspect of Casino Heroes has had a significant impact on the way the user interacts with the website. The landing page displays your avatar – which you can select from 21 different warriors – on a cartoon island, showing your progress towards the boss. While this is certainly snazzy, it barely looks like the type of website where you’ll find a swathe of games to play. A few image icons down the right-hand side show your most recently played games, or the Play icon at the top of the page will take to you the main games page.

After being welcomed with such fanfare on its treasure map-style home page, the flat navy background of the games lobby seems a little dull. Here, though, the grid layout of the games makes it easy to find the one you’re looking for, adding a handy search function if you know the name of your lucky game. Slot games are well known for being bright and colourful – sometimes even too much so – and those available here are no different. On the complete other end of the scale, the non-live poker and blackjack games could do with some sprucing up as they’re not much to look at.

The Casino Heroes software isn’t available to be downloaded, as all of the games are available as instant play directly in the web browser. It draws its games from leading developers Evolution Gaming, NetEnt and a few others. Each developer uses different ways of designing their games, so while some require you to have an up-to-date Flash Player, many of the newest games are HTML5 based, meaning all you need is a normal internet connection and something to connect it to. Then, you’re good to go! I am happy to report that I didn’t have any loading issues or other problems with the Casino Heroes software, keeping my experience smooth throughout.

The Whole Casino Heroes Saga

The online casino was founded in 2014 by Georg Westin, who was also the brains behind rivals Happy Bingo and Casumo. Initially launched in Scandinavian countries under the name Casino Saga, a brief trademark dispute was resolved as the website was renamed Casino Heroes. The website you see today is the third iteration, after the entire look and feel was overhauled and the page relaunched in September 2017.

A Page in the Casino Heroes Tale

The parent company, Hero Gaming, is based in Malta with CEO, Tomas Backman now at the helm of the organisation, having replaced Magnus Alebo in April 2018. Though new to the UK market, Casino Heroes has been around in the Scandinavian scene since 2014, with its founders aiming to create a new experience by combining the features known and loved by mobile gamers with all of the standard casino games. In the highly competitive online casino industry, having such a significant point of difference has certainly helped Casino Heroes stand out from the crowd.

Its unique gamification style has also earned it high praise in the form of industry awards. It was first heralded by online magazine, EGR, at its 2015 Marketing and Innovation Awards, followed by another win in the Rising Star category at EGR’s Operator Awards in 2016. 2018 was also a fortunate year, bringing in the Global Gaming Awards trophy for Casino Product of the Year, and was shortlisted for a prize at the EGR Marketing and Innovation Awards presented in June.

Do You Need Help on Your Quest?

There are two ways of contacting the Casino Heroes support team should you have any queries that aren’t answered in the website’s Frequently Asked Questions section. If you’re playing between 09.00 and midnight, the quickest way to get a response is through the live chat, where real people are available to help you with any problems. Outside of those hours though, your only option is to send an email to its support address and wait for a response.

This is a bit of a shame as far as I’m concerned, as having a contact phone number is always a helpful option if you aren’t so comfortable in your ability to describe your problem with the written word or need help on the spot. If you do need more immediate support for questions about problem gambling issues, there are links to the GamCare and GambleAware organisations in the footer of the website page, as well as Casino Heroes own resources in the Responsible Gaming section.

Your Safety Is a Priority

As you can see, my Casino Heroes review has awarded full marks to the operator for the safety and security criteria. There are a few reasons for this, first of all being the mandatory licence from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), which naturally this operator holds. No casino can operate without a licence, so if you’re ever checking out potential casinos at which to play and cannot find the licence number, you’ve found a rogue website and should exit immediately.

On top of the MGA licence, Casino Heroes is also certified by the Government of Curacao. For added player protection, the operator employs the latest in SSL security technology, which secures player data and is a standard in the online gambling industry.

Adding to the Casino Heroes Online Inventory

After reviewing the main aspects of the casino, I also like to award extra points in a couple of additional categories, some of which deserve to be covered more in-depth in their own reviews. For example, I’ve highlighted the various promotions that it is holding for both new players and for returning users. The treasure chest is overflowing with offers, including things like free spins in a seasonal summer special or bonus rubies to collect, which can be used as in-game currency to buy more spins or place high value bets on slots.

  • Awards . 3/3

  • Promotions . 3/3

  • Special Games . 0/2

  • Loyalty Scheme . 1/1

  • Extras . 1/1

  • Bonus Points . 8

I’ve also awarded full points for all of the awards that the operator has won. However, I couldn’t add any points in the Special Games category, as unfortunately there are no scratch cards or arcade games available on the website, let alone any unique gameplay types. Turning its loyalty program into a method of gamification was certainly worth winning a point for the casino in this case.

The Final Chapter of the Casino Heroes Story

There has been a lot of twists and turns throughout this adventure of a Casino Heroes Review, and now we’ve arrived at my version of a Big Boss in the conclusion. I’m proud to report an overall score of 78/100, with all points being carefully considered and weighed against my thorough criteria. I’m a big fan of the gamification concept, and there is a good number of games available to play, however maybe not quite as many options of blackjack as I’d like. If you’re a blackjack fan and want more options, check out 777 casino or one of the many other casinos I have reviewed.

Strengths and Weaknesses of Casino Heroes

The website and iOS app work well without any issues, but if you’re set on downloading an app for an Android device then perhaps the LeoVegas app could be the way to go. If you’re after an online casino experience that offers a more classy, elegant atmosphere than the comical and animated style available here, then I’d recommend having a look at Grand Ivy. Casino Heroes definitely has a unique point of difference that could be a main drawcard for many an online gaming enthusiast, but it does create a narrower target market that may not be as appealing to others.

Frequently Asked Questions

If there was anything I’ve included in my Casino Heroes review that requires clarification, or if you think of anything I haven’t covered, please feel free to send me an email at [email protected] and I will make changes to the review where possible.

What happens if I don’t defeat a boss?

When your progress takes you to a boss fight, defeating the boss will take you to the next level, potentially giving you some added bonuses. If you don’t defeat the boss, you will have to try again until you do win and move on to the next level, but you will receive 5 free spins on a selected slot if you are defeated.
