Wine 2000 Vintage
|
|
|
|
"2000 is a monumental vintage, and undoubtedly the greatest
year Bordeaux has ever experienced... 2000 Bordeaux prices sooner rather than
later, will escalate." Robert M. Parker Jr., The Wine Advocate |

Chateau Beausejour Becot 2000 St. Emilion, Bordeaux
This the greatest Beau Sejour-Becot I have ever tasted. The opaque purple 2000 has put on weight during its
élevage and, from the bottle, appears to be spectacular. The wood is well-integrated, and the fruit, glycerin, and overall flavor dimensions are noteworthy. The bouquet smells of ink, espresso, jammy
blackberries and currants, wet stones, and licorice. Super-pure and
fabulously extracted, with high tannin, full body, a thick texture, and
awesome richness and length. Rated 93, Robert Parker

Chateau Cos d'Estournel 2000 Bordeaux France
A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by scents of green peppers,
spice, cedar, and minerals. The aromatics suggest considerable complexity
as this wine ages, but the austere, earthy, tannic, compressed style is
not for everybody. Medium-bodied and beautifully pure, this 2000 may
always remain somewhat on the tough side because of an austere, abundantly
tannic finish. Score range: 95-100 Wine Spectator

Chateau Fieuzal Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux France
The earthy, dense purple-colored 2000 is narrowly constructed, but it
exhibits pure, smoky, black currant and cherry fruit, mineral, and new oak
aromas. Medium-bodied, with sweet tannin, and a well-defined, structured
personality and finish, it will be at its peak between 2003-2015. Rated
89-91 Robert Parker

Chateau La Gaffeliere 2000 St. Emilion, Bordeaux
A subtle wine that impresses with displays of measured, incremental fruit, the 2000 offers sweet aromas of mocha, black cherries, cassis, and delicious toasty oak. Although light in the mouth, this ruby/purple-colored 2000 possesses wonderful expansive richness, a deep mid-section, and sweet tannin in the persistent finish. It is not a wine that knocks you out with a blast of fruit and wood, but rather one that impresses for its nobility/subtlety.

Chateau Le Gay 2000 Pomerol, Bordeaux
A powerful, firm, chunky offering with a dense plum/purple color, notes of
Chinese black tea intermixed with vitamins, minerals, earth, black
currants, and cassis, this 2000 is a relatively rugged, tannic,
old-style wine that should develop well in spite of moderately high
tannin and a hint of rusticity. As I said last year, those with 19th
century tastes will go ga-ga over Le Gay's 2000. P.S. Le Gay was sold in
2002 to Catherine Pere-Verge, who has hired Michel Rolland. Rolland
believes that Le Gay can become one of the great Pomerols of the
appellation given its terroir and history of extraordinary wines in the
late forties. Rated 90, Robert Parker

Château Potensac, Médoc, Bordeaux France
A beautiful sleeper of the vintage. Rich and concentrated, it may be the finest Potensac since the 1982. Firm and well-done, with focused berry and mineral character throughout. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine and sleek tannins and a long, racy finish. From Jean-Hubert Delon
of Las Cases. Wine Spectator Review 88

Most wine critics agree that the 1855 Classification is now out of date. Robert M. Parker, Jr. argues that the classification has long created an injustice to consumers because it has caused mediocre wines to be sold for too much and good wine to be sold for too little. He says that the archaic classification "Should be regarded by both the wine connoiseur and the novice as informational items of historical significance only." |
